ONTIER Teams up with Singapore International Arbitration Centre to Deliver Global Webinar on Cross-Border Disputes

Last week, Danielle Carr, Senior Associate at ONTIER UK delivered a global webinar on ”Insights to Better Manage or Avoid Cross-Border Disputes” together with Adriana Alexis Co Uson, Counsel at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre.

This topical issue highlighted recent developments by courts and arbitral institutions to deliver more responsive, cost-effective and faster dispute resolution procedures.

The presenter discussed the role of various dispute resolution mechanisms (such as mediation, arbitration, arb-med-arb and litigation) in assisting parties to resolve complex, cross-border disputes. Danielle Carr and Adriana Alexis Co Uson highlighted the importance of minimising the risk of cross-border disputes arising or escalating, including having robust in-house dispute resolution and document policies, tips for drafting effective dispute resolution clauses and expertise in dealing with regulators and institutions. The presenters also discussed how best to manage cross-border disputes when they do arise, including early scoping and risk assessment, triggering dispute resolution mechanisms, building the right team, engaging experts, considering governing law and forum and strategies for settlement.
